Development of the swan boss

I asked for feedback while making the swans sprite to see what designs people preferred, my first design was this:  feedback said that the eyes were too far back so I moved them forward: Then I asked people if they like the wings to have more or less detail the feedback said the wings should look like  instead so that is the final design of the swan.

Play testing

Through out development of the game we asked people to play and give feedback on what needs fixing and what could be improved. Here are some pictures: 

New enemy sprite

The evolution after Froglet is Toad, Owls eat Toads so the next enemy is a Owl. I used this picture of an owl as a reference image.  The feedback I got from asking people how I could improve it, I needed to make the eyes bigger, add legs and smoother wings.

Power ups

Frogs eat grasshoppers so the sprite for a power up is a grasshopper. I took inspiration for the sprite from this picture of a grasshopper

New enemy

The next evolution’s enemy is a snake so I made a snake gif

Base damage

A recomendation from a tester was that the base should take damage visualy, so I made a gif showing the different stages of damage: 

Evolved creature

The creature evolves from a tadpole to a froglet after collecting enough energy, I took inspiration from this picture of a froglet:

Updates to enemy sprites

Instead of a static object I animated the newts legs and tail

First evolution enemy sprite

Newts eat tadpoles so the enemies in the first stage are newts. I took inspiration from this picture of a newt.

Projectile sprite

For the first stages of evolution the creature will fight enemies by firing a slime like projectile. I couldn’t find any inspirational images so I just made something I think looks good.
